NEA+Smithsonian+NSF-SEAD conference, May 16, 2013
The NSF-sponsored SEAD network co-hosted a conference on May 16, 2013, with The Smithsonian Institution, including a luncheon sponsored by The National Endowment for the Arts.

Smithsonian Discovery Theater
SEAD shared results and sought feedback from an exploration of challenges and opportunities for transdisciplinary research and creative work, informed by 180 international participants. Next we considered methods for innovative exchanges supporting cross-disciplinary learning across formal and informal education settings. Partner group XSEAD then discussed designs for a 21st-century online portal to references and displays of work resulting from transdisciplinary collaboration.

At the NEA luncheon, Federal representatives and co-hosts shared views on the intersections of dicsiplines, and were supportive of the need for SEAD. Federal speakers included individuals from the National Science Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, The Smithsonian Institution, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, U.S. Department of Education, The National Endowment for the Humanities, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the U.S. Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Evening DASER event open to the public

NAS / LEONARDO DASER
At 6 pm, discussions continued in an open public forum hosted at the National Academy of Sciences, "D.C. Art Sciences Evening Rendezvous" (DASER), Co-hosts were the National Academy of Sciences and Leonardo International Society for the Arts, Sciences, and Technology.
